Flying Horse Carousel
If you and your crew feel up to something else beyond the beach, check out Watch Hill Beach’s nationally famous carousel. The Flying Horse Carousel is one of the oldest continuously operating carousels in the country. It was built in 1876 and was established at Watch Hill in 1883. This historical gem is one of the last surviving “flying horse” style carousels in the world. What makes this so unique are the hand-carved wooden horses that are not attached to poles that go up and down, but instead are suspended from the center, causing them to fly out as the carousel turns. Unfortunately for adults, this carousel is open to children only, but you are free to watch from the sidelines as this historical carousel spins joy into the hearts of gleeful children.
Napatree Point Conservation Area
Spend the day with family and friends in nature by heading over to Napatree Point Conservation Area. This slender peninsula is perfect for strolls by the seashore without the crowds of the public beaches. Enjoy sweeping views of Little Narragansett Bay, Fishers Island, and the wide-open Atlantic Ocean. If you like birdwatching, bring a pair of binoculars as Napatree Point is a fabulous spot for watching migrating shorebirds. This stunning long white sandy beach is covered in pristine dunes and beach grass, making this pristine picture-perfect spot.
