If there’s a more charming stretch of coast in the United States than Coastal Maine, we just are not ready to hear about it!
This incredibly gorgeous part of the country has attracted everybody from bohemian crowds looking to escape big cities to America’s most elite families, purchasing large compounds to enjoy and entertain in. Craggy seaside cliffs, historic lighthouses and hidden beaches beckon folks every season of the year whether they want to frolic in the waves or just soak in the views. And yes, there’s lobster here and plenty of it! Seafood hounds will have plenty of chowder and sushi to sample while boat enthusiasts can set sail to some of the most inspiring waters in the world.
Maine itself is not a very populous state, but of its 1.3 million people, more than half make their home along the majestic coastline here. There’s quite a bit to do and see, but start off with Kennebunkport and its celebrity summer families, art galleries and Vinegar Hill Music Theater. City slickers can head on over to Portland for exquisite shopping and the best kitchens in the state. The Mid-Coast area has a number of Instagram-ready seaside villages with lighthouses, whale watching and schooner rides. And be sure to check out Acadia National Park, one of the great outdoor destinations in the nation.
