Welcome to one of Los Angeles’ favorite getaways!
The Coachella Valley has long been known as a sort of “second home” for Hollywood luminaries looking to get away from the city and chill out in some hot and dry surroundings. Besides the world-famous eponymous music festival that happens here every year, this part of the California desert is home to a bunch of resort cities offering a wealth of good eateries, shopping, arts and entertainment and incredible trails to hike or bike around. Poolside activities are a lifestyle here and it often feels like there’s a party pretty much everywhere you go.
Made up of the so-called “Desert Cities,” the municipalities that collectively make up the Coachella Valley are Palm Springs, Indio, Palm Desert, Cathedral City, Indian Wells, La Quinta and Rancho Mirage. The population shifts with the seasons, from about 800,000 in the winter to about 200,000 in the summer. Fun activities include casinos, loads of great restaurants, antiquing and local festivals throughout the year. Joshua Tree National Park and Indian Canyons are fantastic places to hike, and you can even arrange for jeep tours and horseback riding.
